Welcome to Mangrove Lights!

This year Santa’s elves are working overtime to create an incredible holiday light display that will bring joy and laughter to all that view it. This will be our sixth year of participating in the neighborhood holiday display. In previous years we have gradually increased and improved our display of static decorations. However, this year we went for something quite different. We have challenged ourselves this year with the huge task of creating a fully automated and computerized light display choreographed to music. This is a huge undertaking in and of itself, but it is also a labor of love. Although there are plenty of grumbles throughout the design and actual build, the reactions of our family and the people that come by to see the display make it all worthwhile.

We’ll keep you updated on our progress and our trials and tribulations through this site. You can also find more information about the display and when and where to view it here as well. Please feel free to submit questions or comments at any time. Kindly keep in mind we are not professionals, nor do we make any money doing this. We are just a family that loves doing this and gets a kick out of the enjoyment it brings ourselves and others.

New videos posted!

December 13th, 2011

Check out the videos on the video page. It’s not all of the show but its most of it… Enjoy the videos but just remember, the show looks A LOT more spectacular in person; the video just can’t do 48,000 light justice. Come on by and enjoy the show!!!

The show goes on!

December 13th, 2011

It rained in Corona on December 12; as a result, we could not run the show. However it appears Mother Nature has taken kindly to us and it has not rained all day. The equipment had a chance to dry out so the show resumes tonight as scheduled.

The Lights are On!

December 8th, 2011

Well, after a lot of trial and error, a beta mock-up and a ton of hard work, we’re up and running. We didn’t quite achieve our goal of a twelve song program. However, as of now with four songs and great bits by the Demented Elf, we’re still running a show that’s nearly fifteen minutes long. Not too bad for first timers. Seems like a majority of visitors get antsy after a song or two and move on anyway. Still working on a few glitches here and there but nothing major. We may add one or two more short pieces to the show but beyond that we’re nearing the finish line.

Next project is to update the website with more info and directions to the show. We’re going to try to add a ‘go’ or ‘no go’ section to keep everyone informed of the show status. Rain is a killer for the electronics and wind can wreak havoc on the display itself, so we’ll try to let you know if we’re going to be down for the night.

As usual, we appreciate your feedback and encourage you to spread the word about all of the great lights on Mangrove Circle.

Sequencing

August 7th, 2011

Boy am I really behind on sequencing. Just as a point of reference; for every minute of show, it takes approximately 4 hours of programming time to make the lights dance. I’m planning around 40 minutes of music, that’s a lot of time in front of a computer! I need to get moving on this critical aspect of the display…

Radio Waves

August 7th, 2011

Today we tested our sound for the show. Boy was it awful. Luckily we have a couple of months before we’re live on the air. So we fully expect we’ll have the technical issues resolved and the sound will be great!

First post

Our first venture into the world wide web! We are website newbies so go easy on us! We have put this site together as a place where we can talk about our progress for our light display. We’ll update this site as we have more information and learn more about how to actually post stuff to the web.

Thanks for coming along on our journey!
